I see London, I see France...

What looked like keratoconus really was contact lens warpage that eventually went away. I had my PRK surgery on April 11th and so far things have been great. PRK is quite similar to LASIK except that no flap is created. Instead, they operate right on the cornea, which enables them to remove less tissue. The downside is that the healing process is much longer and it takes up to a month or so for your vision to stabilize.

At both my 2 day and 4 day check-ups things were looking (no pun intended) great (I was already 20/40 vision on the forth day) and I just had my 2 week check up today. The good news is that I see 20/20 in my right eye, 20/15 in my left! The better news is that my eyes still have a bit more healing to do which means my vision still has room for improvement. The odds are I'll see a crisp 20/15 in both eyes in the next two weeks or so.

I'm pretty darn happy about the results so far. The eye irritation was easily tolerated, I see no halos, haven't had dry eyes, but I still have some pretty minor light sensitivity. On top of that, I only woke up twice in the middle of the night thinking I forgot to take my contacts out.

smythe update

Here's some updated picts of Jimmy. Jon was repriminding me that there weren't any recent shots up here. He's so right. Life has been busy for us just doing day to day stuff. Seth started a new job on April 1 and we see a lot more of him - which is so nice. We are going to (well, we are hiring someone) to do a little remodling in our kitchen area and are excited about that although it will be a few months before the work actually starts.

Good Morning Giraffes!

You all know Jimmy LOVES Giraffes. This morning he gathered several together for breakfast. As you can see "bath" giraffe is having some milk, while Dad Giraffe and Momma Giraffe look on.

The babies and Gr Grandpa have something in common

Learning to walk !!!!!

It's been rocky. We've had a lot of issues and challenges - more with some people in the facility than with Dad. It will still be a long recovery, but he is up and walking with help. I was surprised at how well he's moving.

The center wanted to move him to a "more secure" location, claiming he was a flight risk and fall risk. We've had to convince Dad to push the button to go to the bathroom so he has help. He hates having the young girls help him that way. We've really had to fight it. We understand that they don't want the liability, but since they accepted him as a patient, he's their's! I think we've finally convinced them of that. The final straw was when they showed up with discharge papers to send him to a long term care center. We nixed that. Long story.

We just want him to get strong enough to come home.

Alyssa's First Birthday

Birthdays start with getting to choose your favorite dinner (Alyssa actually didn't care...she was just excited to feed herself).

Then you get your own cake to eat.

We never knew how much Alyssa loves cake!
